When did you join Natural Power? 

I joined Natural Power in 2019 - learning the job as a 24/7 operational controller (OC) before stepping up to the control point role in January 2023. 

What does your role entail? 

My job is so varied, I carry out a multitude of tasks daily from outage planning, liaising with, & carrying out instructions from National Grid. I monitor & carry out work control on a varied list of assets from wind turbines to battery sites and increasingly solar sites & also monitor the offshore assets for some of the largest offshore windfarms in the UK.  

What are the most rewarding and challenging parts of your role? 

The role is ever evolving in line with the new and improving technology that is appearing within the renewable industry. The control point role is fast paced which is both a challenge & a reward in itself, and the ability to react quickly and efficiently to any given situation, is essential in being able to effectively manage the varied nature of the control point role.  

What is the most interesting project you have undertaken and why? 

The ControlCentre / control point is often the final step to a site becoming fully operational and provides an essential service in maintaining ongoing effective & efficient management of an operational site. Every site we manage has a different set of requirements within ControlCentre and dependant on our clients’ needs, we work together as a close-knit team to deliver on our individual clients’ requirements. ControlCentre plays an integral part for National Grid in delivering balancing requirements on the wider National Grid network. 

Provide a hidden talent or quirky fact about yourself!? 

I love lorries, used to be an HGV driver & I still do a little bit of driving in my spare time. I also wild swim during the winter but not so much during the summer because the water gets too warm.
