When did you join Natural Power?
I joined Natural Power in May 2021.
What does your day typically consist of?
A typical day for me usually revolves around wind pre-construction analyses. Whether it is quality checking wind data, developing a long-term time series, extrapolating mast measured data to the proposed turbine hub height, modelling wakes or calculating/estimating losses, I’m usually working with the US Analytics team to deliver finance grade energy yield assessments for future wind projects.
What is the most challenging part of your role?
I would say the most challenging part of my role is also the most rewarding, which is adapting to meet our client’s needs. Every project is different, with different factors to consider and determine how they might impact future energy production. Getting to conduct a wide range of analyses, whether it is optimizing layouts, conducting site suitability studies, noise and shadow analyses, or pre/post-construction analyses, while being flexible and adaptable to meet our client’s needs is probably the most challenging (and rewarding) part of my role.
What is the most interesting type of work you have done and why?
Layout optimizations are probably one of the more interesting types of work I have been able to be a part of. It is always intriguing to work with developers at such an early stage and be a part of the first few steps of developing a new wind farm, which is often a very iterative process. Plus, I really enjoy geospatial analyses and get to make lots of maps in the process.
Provide a hidden talent or quirky fact about yourself!?
I love to be active, especially by playing hockey. I started skating when I was three and have enjoyed it ever since. Although my body is a bit sore from years of hip and body checks, I still love to get outside and skate (when it is not too cold)!
